Time to Be Kind!
Word of the Week
Altruistic (al-troo-is-tic): Showing concern for someone else’s well being in an unselfish way. Derives from the French word altruisme, a term coined by the French philosopher Auguste Comte.
Bonjour!
You’re in for a real treat this week. . .or maybe you’ll be the one providing the treat. I have some very important news to share with you. Tuesday, September 1st is Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Remember- the first book of Mary and Mike’s Magnanimous Adventures is called Crushing it with Kindness! It’s all about being kind. . .or altruistic. . .or compassionate. You get the idea. Call it whatever you like, but kindness is something that comes from the heart.
To celebrate this extremely important day, I challenge you to complete three random acts of kindness this week. It sounds like a lot, right? I promise you it’s not as hard as you think it might be. Allow me to provide you with some inspiration.
This week I plan to:
Share some of my homemade dog biscuits with my local animal shelter, Happy Tails. I made WAY too many, and I don’t want to see them going to waste.
Call my friend, Mr. Clyde, once each day just to check in. He lives by himself, and I think he gets lonely at times. Having someone to talk to really brightens his day!
Cook dinner at least twice. My daughter-in-law works so hard. I know how tired she must be by the end of the week and how grateful she’d be to have two nights off from cooking and cleaning up. It’s the least I can do!
Your turn! I’m sure you can come up with a great list of your own. . .and I would love to see some of your random acts of kindness in action! Send pictures to ljmadwish@gmail.com to share your thoughtful ideas and help inspire others.
It seems like there are a bunch of different words for kindness. Let’s take a closer look at them with this week’s fun activity, a word search! Enjoy, and until next time!
Au Revoir!
