Summer Strawberry Slush

Word of the Week

Perennial (per-en-ee-uhl): A plant that comes back each year. It comes from the Latin word perennis, meaning "lasting through the years."

Salve!

There's something special happening this weekend. Mother's Day falls on Sunday, May 8th! It's the perfect time to celebrate all the important women in your lives! Moms, grandmas, aunts, cousins, special friends. . .celebrate them by doing something sweet. Or making them something sweet? Trust me, she doesn't want or need anything fancy. Try to do something thoughtful and spend a little extra time with her this year.

When I think of summertime, one of the very first fruits that pops into my mind is the strawberry! Why not start out with a few fun facts about this delicious berry. . .

  • Strawberries are the first fruit to ripen each spring! No wonder I associate summer with them!

  • Strawberries technically aren't berries, because their seeds are on the outside!

  • The average strawberry contains over 200 seeds. Don't forget to floss after enjoying!

  • 75% of our strawberries come from California.

  • They're actually considered a member of the rose family! WHAT?!

  • Strawberries are grown in all 50 states.

  • Strawberries are perennials and grow back each year. They typically bear fruit for five years.

So. . .what magical concoction are we creating for mom this year?

Summer Strawberry Slush

  • 2 cups of frozen strawberries

  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries

  • 12 ounce can of limeade

  • Juice from one lime

  • Crushed ice

  • Mint (optional)

Trust me, she's going to love it! And there will be plenty to share, so you will love this refreshing drink just as much. Focus on some fun time with mom!

Until next time. . .
