Gram Knows Best

Word of the week:

Bibliosmia (bib-lee-oz-mee-ah): Enjoying the smell of good, old books

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm excited to start this new adventure and hope you stay along for the ride. Let me introduce myself! I'm Gram...soon to be one of your favorite characters!

Call me old fashioned, but I strongly believe there is no better feeling than the feeling of holding a real book in your hands. The feeling of turning each page, getting to appreciate all the fine details of the artwork (yes, my wrinkles too), and being able to go back to your favorite part over and over again- there's just nothing better!

I did a little informal research and found a few interesting facts to back up my passion for reading with children.

Did you know...

  1. Beginning in kindergarten, a child who reads for 20 minutes a day hears 1.8 million words each year.

  2. The same child will have read for 851 hours by grade 6.

  3. They typically score better than 90% of their peers on standardized tests.

You can read more here:

I'm not saying you shouldn't read to your children before kindergarten, but that's a whole different discussion!
